Dr. Philippa Ottinger is the new psychologist at Bedlam Hospital over the objections of the director. What would a mere woman know of the workings of the mind? If it had not been for some meddling uncle, he complains, she could not have swayed the board of directors.

There was no further complaint from the director.
One of the brutal and sadistic male nurses is found dead and several inmates are suspected. When Dr. Ottinger sets out to investigate, she gets more than she bargained for.
Some of the inmates seem to be socially unacceptable because of their abilities... some uncanny, at that.
