Frank Mayhew's family had shrunk rather rapidly. The terror of 9/11 took his daughter, his elder son died in the Afghanistan incursion, then his wife slipped away
from depression, and cancer took his father. His mother held on for another two months before she, too, left him.
A scant six months after the planes stuck
the Twin Towers, Frank was left with an only child: his younger, estranged, son. Now they had to work together, and work through their issues, while cleaning out
the grandmother's house. Memories were to be found in every corner, especially in the attic.
Events from Frank's past came back to haunt him, memories that
he had buried for many years returned to taunt him. And in the midst of the boxes, dust, and gloom, he makes a startling discovery: his mother's secret altar in a
corner of the attic. She was a secret Jew!
What? Here in 21st century America? Why?
Frank and his son puzzle through the mystery as outside forces
pull their world into some strange shape until it is unrecognizable. All the questions from his past return, and are answered.
But is the answer anything
he can live with?
